When I was a kid, I used to nag my companion to buy me that little birdie from the church. Fiestas in any part of the country would mean games, food, visitors and vendors. The bird vendors eagerly await the youngsters after the morning mass. It was no exotic or expensive bird. It was just the little maya in a little cute cage. It used to be brown but through the years it was dyed to red, yellow or green. I don't know how they do it but I think it looks cuter now.
Here's a photo of my nephew with his bird. Since I bought him this little cute bird in red, I named him Happy. He had another one in yellow which I named Smiley. I thought two cute birds with cute names but they eventally died after two cute days. Happy died ahead of Smiley. Unfortunately I saw how it happened. The poor birdie intentionally stuck his head in the little sqaure of the cage and choked himself to death. Unlovely death. Suicide. Birds are so crazy. I used to take care of lovebirds when I was young but eventually my father stopped replacing the dead ones everytime they commit suicide. Lovebirds and Mayabirds have one thing in common - tendency to commit suicide.
Goodbye Happy and Smiley. Thank you for putting a smile on my nephew's face even if only for 2 days.
